| Hope Weekly is Asking God to Rock the House!
John and Peter had just spent the night in jail, been dragged before the most important people in their culture, and commanded to never speak or teach in the name of Jesus ever again! All of this happened because they had healed a lame beggar in Jesus’ name on their way into the temple. Upon their release, they quickly went to other believers and shared what had been said to them. How they were threatened not to teach or speak or heal in the name of Jesus. And what did the believers do? They prayed. But not just any prayers, they prayed directly into the threats that they had just received. Here is part of the prayer as it is recorded in Acts 4:29-30:
“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
They prayed together with one heart and one voice. And what happened when they were done praying? Verse 31 describes the scene:
“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”
God answered their prayers by rocking the house and giving them the very thing that they were asking for. They stepped forward from that place and spoke and taught about Jesus and ministered healing in His name with great boldness.
We are coming together as a church this Saturday and Sunday during our ONE Day of Prayer event. The church will be open for 24 hours starting at noon on Saturday and finishing with our 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday. You can come any time. We come together recognizing that one of the greatest threats we face is a culture that is constantly tempting us away from God and off mission. In the face of that threat, we are asking God to help us live out the 3-dimensional life of Jesus, UP – IN – OUT.
As individuals we are praying:
“Lord, make me ONE who loves you with all my heart (UP), who loves my brothers and sisters in Christ like you do (IN), and who loves the world like you do (OUT).”
As families we are praying:
“Lord, make my family ONE that loves you with all our heart (UP), who loves our brothers and sisters in Christ like you do (IN), and who loves the world like you do (OUT).”
And as a church we are praying:
“Lord, make our church ONE that loves you with all our heart (UP), who loves our brothers and sisters in Christ like you do (IN), and who loves the world like you do (OUT).”
As we lift up these prayers together, I know that the Lord is going to meet us. He might even decide to rock the house! But most importantly, may He empower us as individuals, families, and as a church to live out boldly the 3-dimensional life of Jesus, UP – IN – OUT. A church living out their faith in that way will bring incredible hope to the region! God bless you.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit!” Romans 15:13
